ARGO is among Fortuny's most archival designs — named for the ancient Greek city, first realized as a fashion fabric by Mariano Fortuny and Henriette Negrin for a tunic design. Its wavy, ivy-like motif draws equally from the garden and the sea: organic, flowing, and botanical without being literal. In velvet, the metallic pigments heighten the contrast between the raised pattern and the ground, giving the floral forms a luminosity that shifts with light and viewing angle.
