Rabat Fabric

RABAT takes its name from the capital of Morocco, a city whose medina unfolds in a labyrinth of narrow alleys and interlacing geometry. The pattern is organized around the girih, a Persian word meaning 'knot': a Moorish design principle in which interlacing forms create a structure that is simultaneously bounded and infinite, with no visible beginning or end. Islamic decorative tradition holds that the girih pattern extends beyond the material world, that its infinite expansion reflects the divine. Fortuny's RABAT translates that spiritual geometry into a printed cotton surface, its playful forms maintaining the visual complexity of the source tradition while adapting to the proportions and colorways of a refined interior textile.
