Every pattern tells a story and this elegant stripe, inspired by a stunning fabric swatch found in a merchant’s sample book, captures the essence of English silk production during the Georgian era. The original silk creation from the 1770s exemplifies the exceptional skill and creativity of the silk producers in Spitalfields, East London, which long stood as the epicentre for fashionable, high-quality silks. By selecting just one element of the beautifully patterned fabric and opening up the repeat of the design, a simple, elegant striped wallcovering was created. The small, delicate stiches are slightly raised to mimic the texture of the brocaded silk original and a soft linen texture print was added to the background to further enhance the fabric effect, again in reference to the pattern’s textile origin. Shown here in the Natural colorway.
