TRH5776 Futo-Katsuo-Jima Aizome Indigo Stripe Cotton

Futo-katsuo-jima (太鰹縞, bold bonito stripe) is one of the oldest Edo-period stripe patterns: wide bands that shade from pale asagi to deep kon (紺, dark indigo), echoing the gradient on the back of a bonito fish. Every band is woven from aizome (藍染め, natural indigo dyeing) yarns, so the stripes have the soft, slightly uneven depth that only real indigo gives.

A medium-weight momen (木綿, cotton) plain weave, it suits shirts, aprons, cushion covers, table runners and patchwork, and makes a striking roman shade.

Specifications: Content: 100% Cotton. Width: 39 inches (100 cm). Weight: about 5.8 oz per linear yard (180 g per meter). Hand: medium weight. Technique: Aizome yarn-dyed stripe, plain weave. Origin: woven in Japan.

Care: Hand wash or gentle machine wash cold, separately. Natural indigo can transfer color with friction, especially when new. Do not bleach. Dry flat in the shade. Professional cleaning recommended for upholstered pieces.

Ordering: Sold by the yard, with a 1-yard minimum; multiple yards are cut as one continuous length. Natural dyes and hand weaving vary slightly from lot to lot, so we recommend a sample for color-critical projects.
