Sumizome (墨染め, sumi-ink dyeing) is an old Japanese technique that colors cloth with carbon from sumi ink, producing a soft, smoky natural gray that is said to help block UV and neutralize odors. The base is a lightweight fushi-ori (節織, slub-yarn weave) cotton with gentle hollows in its surface.
A calm neutral for shirts and dresses, curtains, cushion covers, bedding and lampshades.
Specifications: Content: 100% Cotton. Width: 49 inches (124 cm). Weight: about 5.6 oz per linear yard (175 g per meter). Hand: lightweight. Technique: Sumizome (ink dyeing) on fushi-ori slub weave. Origin: woven in Japan.
Care: Hand wash or gentle machine wash cold, separately. Do not bleach. Dry flat in the shade; do not tumble dry. Professional cleaning recommended for upholstered pieces.
