Priced per Yard

A dense, softly ribbed Japanese cotton woven from yarn-dyed shima (縞, stripe) in deep indigo, offered in two Edo-period stripes:

  • TRH5794.A Sensuji (千筋, "a thousand lines"): the finest of vertical pinstripes, so close together they almost read as a solid.
  • TRH5794.B Daimyō-jima (大名縞, feudal-lord stripe): restrained narrow stripes of indigo and sumi (墨, charcoal) named for the finely striped kimono worn by samurai lords.

Soft but structured, breathable and wide. For shirts, dresses and aprons, cushions, table linens, curtains, tote bags, quilting and upholstery accents.

Specifications: Content: 100% Cotton. Width: 47 inches (119–120 cm). Weight: about 7.4 oz per linear yard (230 g per meter). Hand: medium weight. Technique: Yarn-dyed shima (stripe), dense plain weave. Origin: woven in Japan. Colorways: TRH5794.A Sensuji Kon Indigo, TRH5794.B Daimyō-Jima Kon and Sumi.

Care: Hand wash or gentle machine wash cold, separately. Natural indigo can transfer color with friction, especially when new. Do not bleach. Dry flat in the shade. Professional cleaning recommended for upholstered pieces.

Ordering: Sold by the yard, with a 1-yard minimum; multiple yards are cut as one continuous length. Natural dyes and hand weaving vary slightly from lot to lot, so we recommend a sample for color-critical projects.
